Changes to my VMax : ARTICLE IN: |
THIRD PAGE OF CHANGES TO MY VMAX Incredible, I made so much changes to my bike I even needed a third page for the story. I was not satisfied with the way the extra fuelpump for the NOS system was mounted. On the first page of this long story of the things I changed on my bike, you can see the fuelpump all the way up, under the cowl in which the original revcounter and idiotlights are placed. It was a good and clean place to mount it, but what I didn't realise was that, when I would not use the NOS for some time, the fuel would drain back in the fuelsupplyhose to the fuellevel in the fueltank. Simple physics. The only solution I could think of, was to mount the fuelpump lower than tank level, thus having the pump push the fuel up, rather than sucking it back up into the hose. I mounted it in the place where the original footpegs used to be. There was room for it because of the rearsets. It still is bare, without protection from the elements. I have to have a tube- like house made up from Aluminum or Stainless Steel, with holes for the hose and wiring, but it works very well. The moment I switch on the NOS, the fuelpressure gauge reads 5 psi, the working pressure I need. In the making: I'm having her tuned up to 1300 cc, using JE high compression pistons ( 12.1: 1 ) , CARILLO rods, MEGACYCLE Stage 2 cams, a LOCK-UP by Vetsch racing( I know, I've only had the BARNETT spring conversion for about 500 miles, but it has to be changed with the 1300 and NOS ), bigger nozzles for the NOS ( size depending on the Dyno readout ), NOLOGY HOTWIRES, a DYNA rev-limiter and shiftlight, and a HOLESHOT electronic shiftkit. I'll also have a BARNETT gearbox upgrade installed. While the engine is apart I have it sprayed black again. I wanted to go to 1500 cc, but a lot of people I spoke to changed their engines back to 1300 after breaking down with the 1500 set ( which is no big problem when you ride a dragbike and take it apart every season ). I think I'm better of with this set-up when I want to drive it all summer on the street. We are aiming for 150 HP on the rearwheel without the NOS. It is all being done now by MOTOTECH in Villeneuve D'asqu, France. This company was recommended to me by JEAN - YVES VETSCH, a dragracer from France ( you can find his link on my LINKS - page ). February 12th : Phillipe sent me the pre - tune Dynosheet showing 118 hp without - and 139.8 hp with the NOS on the rearwheel ! The Carillo rods, gasp, gasp. The lockup clutch by Jean Yves Vetsch. Spot the difference !! And that are the guys that have my bike now. JY on the left and Phillipe on the right. Take good care of her boys. See what they did to their bikes? This is Jean Yves' dragster. NOS and turbo'd. And this Eddie Lawson coloured dragster is Phillipe's. NOS and turbo as well. February 18 : Just came back from Villeneuve D'Asqu, where I took some pictures of my - now very sorry looking - VMax. Pistons, gearbox, cams are on their way from America, rods and lock - up clutch are already at the shop. As soon as the stuff arrives Phillipe will start the preparations for the enginework and he will prepare the engine to be sprayed. He's also made a polished aluminum plate which mounts under the tankdummy ( on top of the K&N's ), where he's going to mount the solenoids for the NOS and the controls for the shiftkit, rev. limiter and shiftlight. Spot the difference between a conventional and a digital camera !!! March 26th: Just received an E-mail from JYV, informing me that the lower enginecase will be closed by the end of the week, with the new gearbox and clutch installed. They are still waiting for the pistons from JE in America. I had Exactrep in England send solid motormounts and Stainless Steel bolts to Phillipe's shop, which you can see on the picture below. The bar on the front of the engine replaces the 2 bolts on each side of the engine, so it acts like a brace on the front of the frame. Megacycle Stage 2 cams, still in the showcase untill the build-up. Heads already polished and sprayed, waiting to get back on the engine. I went to the Paris Tuning Show this weekend ( 21-4/23-4 ) and stopped at Phillipe's shop to take some of the pictures you see here ( cams, Exactrep enginemounts, heads and the new picture of the Carillo rods ) , and the engine is still apart, contrary to the message above. JE in America still did not ship the pistons, it's not even clear whether they already machined them. All we can do is wait for the mail. Saw the bike below at the Paris Tuning Show 2000. Like it, so I put a picture here. CLICK HERE TO GO BACK TO PAGE ONE CLICK HERE TO GO BACK TO PAGE TWO CLICK HERE TO GO TO PAGE SEVEN
